Picking the right perfume can be a lot of fun, too bad people tend to pick the wrong ones. Do not despair, the following are just a few tips and tricks in choosing the right cologne and perfume to suit you. And you don’t have to spend a lot of money, too.

The first step in choosing the right cologne or perfume for you is to find out what type of fragrance you like. Don’t be swayed by your friends recommendations of which brands have the best perfumes, pick the ones you like, and remember that each scent means something.

The perfect scent should compliment your personality and your own style: are you sassy or classy? Or perhaps you’re more adventurous? Most companies release a variety of colognes and perfumes to suit different types of personalities.

You can also pick different scents depending on the occassion or your mood. You can match different scents based on their lightness or depth.

One thing you can do the next time you go to a store, is to test their wide range of perfumes and colognes. Since fragrance reacts to a person’s own unique body chemistry, what may smell great on your friend might not necessarily smell good on you.

That’s because the chemicals in your body can alter the scent of the cologne or perfume. The problem is, most people never bother bother to check how a scent would smell on them, and instead rely on merely sniffing it from a testing paper or the bottle. You should spritz it on your wrist, and let the smell linger for a minute before smelling. Only then can you find out if it’s an ideal match, since most perfumes will remain on your body even after several hours.

Buying the right perfume or cologne is a lot like buying the clothes for your wardrobe, you have to try them all to find the right one for you. Choosing the right cologne or perfume can make a whole lot of difference to your day, and your sense of style. So don’t be swayed by those ads or pick the most expensive ones, instead choose the cologne and perfume that’s just right for you.

The Origins of Women’s Perfume

While plenty of people love to use and talk about perfume, not a lot are aware of it’s origins. Did you know that perfume has existed since the ancient times?

It has been around as long as the Egyptian pyramids. Isn’t that amazing? In those days, perfume was made by mixing different types of scented plants, oils and animals. But modern day perfume, like the one we use to day, only dates back to France in the 1600’s.

But what about colognes, where it come from? Well, the origines of cologne can be traced back to Germany, some 300 hundred years back. The history of cologne can actually be traced back to a Carthusian monk, who was said to have invented this fine mixture, which he then sold to the male population. It became so popular, that he later gave it a name: cologne.

So what’s the difference between perfumes and colognes? The difference lies in the strength of their fragrance. While both can be created using a mixture of essential oils and denatured ethyl alcohol, perfumes have more essential oils added into it. The ratio of oils found in perfume is about 20:40, compared to that of cologne.

It’s because of this, that perfumes have a stronger fragrance, and tend to last longer on the wearer than most colognes. That’s why perfumes are merely dabbed on, while colognes are usually sprayed. Despite these differences, colognes and perfumes both have the same storage requirements, and should be kept in a devoid of heat and sunlight. This keeps the perfume and cologne from evaporating.

Most people make the mistake of storing their perfume and cologne inside the medicine cabinets in their bathrooms, forgetting that hot showers can increase temperatures. The best place to keep perfumes and colognes are in your bedroom, or even the refrigerator, if you want to lengthen their shelf life.

That’s it for this article, and I hope learning about the origins of perfumes and colognes have been very insightful.

If there’s one thing that’s constant in this world, it’s how much women love perfume. From the time the Egyptians used scents to make themselves smell better, to our current times when women have it as an integral part of their fashion accessory. Women’s perfumes are just as indespensible as their belt, acclimating to their moods and the changing seasons. Today, there are so many listed brands that it can be quite overwhelming.

Most of the popular fragrances can be bought online, where you can find an unlimited range of women’s perfume, such as the celebuscent that Sarah Jessica Parker developed for Prada.

There are as much varieties of women’s perfumes as there are types of women, that’s why it’s important to find that one unique scent that that directly compliments a woman’s own body chemistry. If you know why this happens, then you will find out how you can select the perfect perfume for your yourself, or that special woman in your life. Consider these tips on how to choose the best perfume for women.

Women’s perfume can be classified under several fragrance categories, mainly: woody, floral, fougere, fresh, or oriental. This is fairly easy to remember, as each fragrance reflects the name the scent was based upon. If it has a floral scent, then it smells like a flower. If it has a woody sense, then it will give of a scent that reminds you of the forest or woods.

Another thing you should consider is the perfume’s strength. A bottle of high quality perfume will have much higher concentrations, which is why they usually come in smaller bottles. That’s because a bottle of perfume is really nothing more than a mixture of aromatic oils, with ratios not exceeding 20%. Cheaper perfumes do not have as high a concentration, and the fact that it’s thinner means it doesn’t have as strong of a scent. These perfumes are easy to spot as they are packaged with the labels eau de toilette, eau de cologne, or eau de perfume.

Learning about these two factors will help you identify what makes a good women’s perfume. To practice, see if you can find some well known designer perfumes, then study their labels. Then practice classifying them according to the tips we mentioned previously.

Some scents are easily recognizable, and you can tell the difference as soon as you open the bottle. Others are not quite as obvious and offer just a hint of suggestion, and may require more practice in identifying them. This is true for more delicate scents like Lily of the Valley.

Once you’ve had sufficient experience and can easily recognize the subtle differences among different kinds of women’s perfume, then you will be more adept at finding high quality perfumes at bargain prices. That’s because you don’t have to spend a lot of money in order to get the best scents.

What scent drives you?

It is amazing to me how there are so many different fragrances on the market today with there own distinct aroma. Each fragrance has its own appeal to the consumer that buys it whether it is a richer scent or a more modest scent with a sweet aroma.

Fragrances designers range from Brittany Spears, to Chanel, to Dora the Explorer and each appeal to an individual in its own way. What is that drives a person to purchase a specific fragrance?

Although there hundreds, if not thousands of brands out there I believe much of the decision is based on price range. Along with the variety of perfumes, also comes a broad range in price from the very expensive to the low cost fragrances.

Many upper class consumers may purchase the higher-end line of fragrances buy designers such as Chanel, Versace, or the very extreme called the Imperial majesty which runs around $215,000 per bottle. Where as the average American may spend $15 to 40$ per bottle for designers such as Nautica or Ralph Lauren.

Now that the selection has been narrowed down by cost, what is the next factor? The smell itself and how it arouses an inviduals senses is the next factor. Although this may seem simple it is very complex and we still do not know why one scent smells good to one person and terrible to another.

Even though there is no exact science behind why we like what we like there are some trends. these trends differ widely across the spectrum. Cultures and age for example are two different classes but yet each class will have some comparable taste in the selections they choose.

My conclusion to all I have research is besides the cost, we prefer what we prefer.

The bottom line is the best way to find your perfect fragrance is to try many samples in your price range and eventually you will find one that you like. After all, there is a huge variety on the market.

Why People Wear Perfumes and Colognes

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

Why do people wear perfumes and colognes? It’s no doubt that people wear them to smell good, and as a result, which is why the perfume industry continues to be a successful market. Perfumes not only make us smell great, but it makes us feel more attractive. So what are the other reasons why people wear perfumes and colognes?

There are a few different reasons why people choose to don on a scent. One, is that people love buying designer colognes and perfumes because they are a fan of the brand. Scents endorsed by celebrities are a continued success, since people want to buy things that they think they’re using, which is an effective way of marketing.

Besides using celebrities, another way that companies market their products is through their packaging. Designer perfumes bank on their name, and the striking looks of it’s bottles and the boxes it comes in. Beautiful packaging increases it’s aesthetic and economic values.

To compliment this, they use equally attractive models in their advertisements. In these ads, the models hold the bottles of cologne and perfume, making it seem like they were more beautiful after having used the product. A sure way to get consumers to buy their product.

Of course, there are those who buy the scents simply because they like the way it smells. So the buy the scent solely on the fragrance.

But the biggest reason why women buy perfume is that it makes them feel more attractive, giving a boost to their self-confidence. Men buy colognes for the exact same purpose: they buy them thinking that it will make them more attractive to women.

Isn’t it great that we have the modern advantage of having easy access to colognes and perfumes? Especially since this wasn’t the case many centuries ago, when most people had to rely on scented oils to smell fresh by masking their body odors. (That’s because most people didn’t take baths everyday. Eww.)

See, that’s just a few reasons why people love to get colognes and perfumes. And if you do find yourself smelling a little ripe, try taking a bath first. That’s cheaper.

Where to Find the Best Designer Women’s Perfume at Great Prices

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009
by Gordon

A designer perfume doesn’t have to be expensive, just so long as you know where to buy them. There are a lot online retailers that sell women’s perfumes at wholesale prices”the same designer scents that you can get perfume counters at department stores.

The reason why designer perfumes are so desirable is that some only come at a limited run, such as the celebuscents released by famous celebrities. One other reason being that designer perfumes simply smell better, and last longer.

So how can you get women’s perfumes at wholesale rates? Most manufacturers will offer new scents at discount prices, much like an indtroductory promotion. The different between retail and discount rates may seem minimal at firt, but you must take into account that authentic brands last a lot longer than fake ones, thereby saving you a lot more in the long run.

Now, where exactly can you find these great deals? A lot of online sites now sell expensive branded perfumes, offering them at discount prices, which is a lot less than what you can get at botiques and department stores.

They also carry a much wider variety of fragrances. So instead of driving across town, and then working your way from one perfume counter to another, you browse a huge collection with just a click of your mouse. Other brands also offer their products at beauty supply or drug stores. If you’re really looking for a bargain, you can wait until a stores closeout or annual clearance sale. Most stores are anxious to make room in their shelves for new stocks, so they get rid of their existing perfume inventory by offering them at low prices.

But before heading down the discount aisles and hoarding all the discount fragrances, make sure you check their real retail prices. Go to a few department stores and make note of their real prices, that way when you finally go online or to the sale itself, you can see the difference in prices.

If the prices offered at the online sites and clearance sales, then buy it. Sales can go quickly, and you might never see it again. If the prices are just about the same, or have no visible difference, then no worries. Just bookmark your favorite perfume and wait. Sooner or later, it will go on sale, so better just browse around than buy now. Who knows, you might something you like better, and in the price range that you’re looking for.

I hope these tips will help you make a better selection next time you’re in the mood to buy a new scent.
